Game Summary:
Snowblind is a psychological horror game focused on exploration, survival, and cooperation and collaboration with others while still factoring in the problem of isolation. The setting is a bit spread out, so it's not always possible to be in close proximity with others all the time. The game takes place in Norfinbury, a location supposedly in Alaska. The goal of the game is for characters to work with each other and with the setting itself to unlock the town's mysteries and uncover its secrets. But there are obstacles in the way, including snow, freezing temperatures, monsters that lurk all the time but especially at night, and a general lack of readily available supplies. There are supplies available, but they're rudimentary at best, although sometimes characters will get lucky.
Events that happen test characters' psychological strengths and their will to survive; although there are monsters around, the events are more based around mind games and less on physical feats of strength. The goal is learning about (and from) the town's history, and finding some way to get everyone out and back to their own worlds again.
How long was your character in Game: Roughly three and a half months ICly (Days 298 to 400) and about ten months OOCly (November 2017 to September 2018).
History of Character in their Game:
Nicole arrived into the game on Day 298, uncertain what she'd walked into, but as luck would have it, there was no shortage of people available to explain things. She quickly announced herself on the network, opening herself up to meet a variety of different people and finding herself engaged in a wide range of experiences, both friendly and somewhere between snark and sarcasm. She reunited with an old friend, but quickly realized there are some complications existing between them that weren't there previously. But since travel took time in Norfinbury, she had to content herself with getting from point A to point B first.
On day 300, under the influence of an event, Nicole became an anomaly and attacked Flynn. She also had encounters with Enoch and Alfie Solomons; the former was an odd sort of encounter, but in it, she tried to help Enoch (and herself) out of a horrific landscape designed to cause crippling fear. And as far as the encounter with Alfie went, it was equally unusual. The two of them were in a cell, awaiting some horrific fate, but during that time, they found they're both equally determined to get out of Norfinbury by any means necessary.
After coming out of the event, armed with more unpleasant memories than she started with, Nicole spent some time traveling on her own until day 304 when she finally met up with Flynn at the museum.
For a little while, Nicole and Flynn traveled together, doing their best to pick up where they left off. It was difficult, of course, because Flynn was from a different timeline than Nicole was, and a lot had changed in that time. But Flynn finally told Nicole the truth about what happened to her, expressing his regrets and how he felt about it. Of course, Nicole was quick to forgive him for whatever role he might have played in losing her, and they resumed their relationship a best as they can.
On the evening of day 304, there was a bit of a scuffle between Peter Quill and Stephen Strange that took place over the network. Nicole observed this, and she learned about the existence of robotic spiders that appeared anytime someone's tablet was broken. Aside from the disagreement between Peter and Stephen (whose tablet was broken by Peter), this information about the tablets and the spiders piqued Nicole's interest. Nothing actually came of it, but it was filed away as interesting information.
Until day 308, when Magenta Magenta inquired about it, Nicole had kept the business of her becoming an anomaly to herself. While she was a private person ordinarily, when it came to information that might possibly benefit the group as a whole, she saw no reason to withhold said information. So she divulged what happened between her and Flynn during the Decoherence event, and he responded with curiosity and disbelief. This conversation was notable because he informed her that anomalies were drawn by crowds, but they could also appear at any time, so it wa best to be on guard all the time. Not that Nicole would do things any differently.
Night 309 was relatively uneventful, unless you counted Nicole and Bucky Barnes glaring daggers at each other while Flynn tried to get them to relax. This meeting was important in that it established for Nicole that Bucky was someone who could hold his own, and therefore was someone to remember.
On day 314, in the midst of everyone getting sick, House appeared on the network, asking for everyone's symptoms so he could provide a diagnosis. Flynn and Nicole were together at the time, but rather than give their own symptoms to House, they gave each others, both claiming that the other was too stubborn to comply.
Fast forward a bit to night 320, the night of the tablet seance, as orchestrated by Will Graham. Nicole wasn't on the receiving end of any bombshells, but it was fairly interesting to learn that they were being spoken to by a group, as opposed to just one individual. The use of "IWE" and "MEUS" was curious. But other than learning that getting to the bunker was a recommended course of action, Nicole didn't get a lot out of the seance.
On day 338, after awhile of traveling together, Flynn and Nicole parted ways. She obviously didn't want to let him go, but after they discussed it, she decided it was what he needed to do, and she didn't want to stand in his way. Granted, nothing was certain in Norfinbury, and safety wasn't a guarantee either, but still, Nicole knew that if Flynn left, he'd make every effort to come back when the time was right.
So for a little while, it was just the Harley Quinn and Nicole Noone show, and it worked out just fine. She and Harley bonded quickly, and although it might have appeared at first glance that the two women didn't have much in common, that didn't seem to matter. Friendship and connections were as important to surviving in Norfinbury as was gathering food and staying warm. From then on, Nicole and Harley had a good relationship, with each of them checking in on the other periodically as time allowed.
On the morning of day 356, in the middle of the Consolidation Theory event, Nicole and Flynn reunited, but it wasn't the reunion either of them hoped for or expected. Long story short, Flynn and a lot of other people had been separated and put into cells, but from the perspective of the ones rescuing them, there was nothing restraining them or preventing them from leaving. But the captives' minds were fooling them into thinking they were in chains or chained to the wall, and thus couldn't leave. It took a lot of convincing for Nicole to talk Flynn into leaving, because he was adamant that he was chained up to the wall.
And once he was free, neither of them could help themselves from relieving some of the stress by very passionately kissing. Yes, even in a torture dungeon, there was no stopping the two of them. Good thing no one (presumably) was watching.
On day 368, Nicole once again met up with Flynn, armed with the promise of a date night and some semblance of normalcy, which was hard to come by here. Of course both of them were still dealing with the fallout from the Consolidation Theory event, but there was no underestimating the power of a cup of coffee and some stale vending machine and convenience store food to lift the spirits. They did the best they could to make it a great night, because who knew when an opportunity like this would present itself again?
But by the time day 378 came around, Nicole found herself reconnecting with Flynn and Peter Quill, as well as striking up a fledgling friendship with Gamora. Nicole finally got to spar with Peter, a long-awaited match between two Guardians. She checked in on Flynn, and the two of them bemoaned their respective sore muscles and spoke longingly of things like massages. An actual massage may or may not have occurred at some point.
And then she met Gamora, after awhile of just hearing stories about her. The two got along with relative ease, and they shared tales of their experiences and the ups and downs of looking after Peter and Flynn.
That was just a short respite before the group split up again. But on the evening of day 379, when Flynn took to the network with a message, she couldn't help but chat with him again there, making plans for another meetup, joking that Flynn's bearskin rug was very much missing her.
On day 400, Nicole and Flynn met up for the last time, because she died the next day, on day 401. It'll be after this final death that she comes to the Meadous.
How did they change from their canon personality wise (Please explain what caused it to happen?)
Nicole's always been the type to just work on her own, put her nose to the grindstone, and work hard until the job (or the assignment) is done. She works best on her own, because she believes her skills to be more than enough, and honestly, the idea of working with people who might just get in the way and trip her up is distasteful. Still, as a Guardian, it's her job to work alongside the Librarian, support him, and protect him. She doesn't despise that aspect of her job; she might not always see eye to eye with the Librarian, but that doesn't stop her from doing her job to the letter.
At first when she came to Norfinbury, she was a bit skeptical of everyone, not sure if she could (or even should) trust them. Even before she knew that Flynn was there, her primary thought was keeping him safe and not divulging too much information. That protectiveness relaxed a little bit, the more she got to know people and began forming a small circle of friends. Even those who were on the periphery that she interacted with only occasionally came to be viewed with a more trusting eye than before.
For example, she spoke on occasion with Bucky Barnes and Alfie Solomons, two of whom she didn't trust at first. Bucky's vaguely menacing aura put her off and made her hackles go up, but Flynn quickly put her at ease by relating how he and Bucky worked together to get out of a sticky situation. Alfie Solomons was someone she wasn't certain she liked, but after a few conversations with him, she began realizing that they weren't so different after all. Their viewpoints on life and living were similar in terms of their respective pragmatism, and although she never said as much, she actually started trusting him.
Cooperation and collaboration was necessary for survival in Norfinbury, even though the spread out nature of the town meant sometimes a person spent long stretches of time on their own. But the network was a way of reaching out, and over time, Nicole moved past her reticence and belief that she could handle everything on her own, and she began branching out, speaking to newcomers and strangers alike.
She came to realize that being in it for herself wasn't going to serve anyone, so she even began to work with others, trading supplies, and joining in on the various attempts to learn more about the town. Will Graham's tablet seance was one such instance. Despite not knowing Will well, nor being very technologically inclined, Nicole opted to participate, both out of curiosity and both because she wanted to contribute something to the exploration and information gathering effort.
Of course, Nicole already was tough as nails before coming to Norfinbury, and being there only sharpened that. What with the anomalies roaming the town and tempers occasionally running high, being on guard was a necessity. So on the one hand, while Nicole became more willing to reach out and cooperate with others, on the other, she still maintained the belief that at the end of the day, the person she could trust most was herself.
How did they change from their canon physically (Please explain what caused it to happen?):
Nicole was always on the leaner side of the scale, but with food in Norfinbury being scarce, malnutrition will be her primary concern upon arriving into the Meadous. Also, with the temperatures in the town being below freezing more often than not, signs of overexposure to the elements and frostbite will also be a concern.
As far as appearance goes, her clothes obviously look travelworn thanks to the harsh elements, and personal grooming hasn't exactly been a priority. Her hair is most likely very tangled, and given the scarcity of things like showers and soap, she probably doesn't appear very clean either.
And there's also the fact that she left Norfinbury by dying, so she might not appear to be in the best physical shape, if that factors into anything.
Powers: She has no supernatural powers beyond the following basic ones.
- Physically fit: Nicole can hold her own in a fight, knowing standard fighting moves, drawing a bit from such disciplines as boxing and martial arts (karate, jiu jitsu, that sort of thing).
- Survival skills: She can build a fire, scale a tree, and scavenge for edible food, if necessary. Also she's accustomed to traveling in remote areas and through rough terrain.
